Playoff time

The first games of round 1 were played last Sunday and they really shook things up. All the lower-seeded teams beat the higher-seeded teams. [Read more:]

Now, while I doubt this is unprecedented, I think it shows how we get serious when it comes playoff time.

We sometimes hear a lot of smack about the “low quality of the league” and that we are all a bunch of hicks out playing sandlot baseball. (Actually, there are only two hicks in the league, and that is me and Clint…)

This league is filled with many talented players who live, eat, and breathe baseball. They have a passion for the sport that has kept them playing as long as they can, and, most importantly, in their own backyard. This league is all about the love of the game and now, more than ever, it shows.

Hope you get a moment to see some of the great games during this first round.

Tonight’s games

  • Spring Mills at Lemont
  • Spike Island at Clarence Coyotes
  • Howard at Pleasant Gap

All games start at 6 p.m. Hope to see you there!

Ryan Dyke sparked the hawks in the second inning with a leadoff double and would later score on an RBI groundout.  That would be all the offense Dylan Womer would need as he limited the Peppers to 4 hits with 6 k’s in a complete game effort.  Only once did Pleasant Gap have a runner reach second base with less than 2 outs as a leadoff double by Trent Fortney would only see him advance as far as third.  Howard would add insurance runs in the 4th and 5th innings paced by another leadoff double this time by Evan Gettig.

Opening Day 2017

With all the threat of rain, we made it through opening day for the Centre County Baseball League.

Coming away with the wins were league champs, Clarence Mounties, and the Howard Hawks.

Lemont at Mounties

The Clarence Mounties scored 3 runs off of Lemont starter Clint Hicks in the 1st inning, which would be all they would need to cruise to a 4-0 win at Clarence in the opener. In the 1st, John Schall hit a 2 out RBI double, and Ryan Guenot added a 2 RBI single to make the score 3-0. In the bottom of the 5th, Brian Kochik added a solo homer to LF that hit the top of the wall and skipped into the creek to make the score 4-0. Mountie pitcher Ryan MacNamara picked up the complete game win, striking out 9. Clarence is back in action at home on Tuesday vs. Pleasant Gap, while Lemont hosts PO. Clarence is 1-0 on the season, while Lemont falls to 0-1. Mountie Bryce Greene goes 2-4 at the plate, setting the CCBL record for hitting streak at 23 games, dating back to 2016.

Coyotes at Howard

Evan Getting started off fast with a single off Coyotes pitcher Andrew Stover. Dan Cole promptly brought him in to get the Hawks the lead in the first inning. The Hawks put together another offensive assualt in the sixth, starting with a walk by Kyle Womer, who was eventually brought in on a double by Dyke. Hawks pitcher, Brian Pelka, who pitched a complete game, deftly handled the Coyotes with 7Ks. Not bad at all…
