Both teams felt like the night would never come after a really competitive Game 2 that lead to some heated banter between the teams.  Peppers staring pitcher Devin Alterio would cruise through the first inning in 6 pitches.  Spring Mills starter Cody Luse would not fare as well– a lead off single and a hit batsman had Pleasant Gap in business but a bases loaded walk would be all they would get as Luse induced an inning double play to end the threat.  The pitching would dictate the offense through most of the game.  Spring Mills would finally collect their first hit in the 4th inning and immediately follow it with another that left runners on first and 3rd with no outs. Alterio would get a weak fly ball to left and a strong throw was followed but a high hop allowed Taylor Wingard to score and tie up the game.  The Braves weren’t done yet with 2 outs-a walk left them with runners on 1st and second, Number 8 hitter Logan Johnson took an early offering from Alterio that cleared his brother playing center field and brought home the go ahead run but a quick recovery nailed the second runner trying to score, but Spring Mills already had the lead.   Luse was continuing his strong effort limiting the baserunners between the 2nd and 6th innings to just 2 with no hits allowed.  The Braves would also struggle at the plate-following their outburst they would only have 1 more batter reach base.  Down 2-1 the Peppers would finally collect their second hit off Luse to begin their part of the 7th, a sacrifice bunt had him in scoring position when a questionable move by the Pitcher, Batter and Umpire led to a stoppage in play that would lead to future discussions that have since been resolved.  Luse would get a deep fly ball to leave the runner at second and now 2 outs, the fate of the Peppers would soon be sealed when a ground ball to second base would push the Braves back to the semifinal round after a 4 season drought.

As neither team was in a hurry to get the offense started Tuesday evening when the Mounties got rolling it was over just as quick.  Scoreless through 2 Clarence would tack on 6 runs in the 3rd inning collecting just as many hits and sending 10 batters to the plate.  With Justin Koleno efficiently holding down the Peppers that would be all they needed but the Mounties weren’t finished.  Adding 2 more in the 4th from a pair of doubles with Justin Taylor’s plating both of the runs Clarence would try to end the game in the 5th needing only 2 more runs to give them the necessary 10 they would get there with a 2 run double from Chuck Probst but Taylor left the last mark by hitting a 3 run homer to cap his 3 hit/5 RBI evening and ensuring a Mountie victory.  The only thing better than the Mountie bats was the performance on the mound by Koleno who would only face 17 batters and not give up a hit to the Peppers while striking out 4.

WP Zach Moerschbacher (No- Hits)  LP Zach Smeal

Both teams got off to sluggish starts Thursday as the Ducks visited the Peppers.  As the game played out Zach Moerschbacher was the main reason Lemont wasn’t able to get anything going offensively.  Pleasant Gap took advantage of the bases they were given by moving runners up as Tyler James started the scoring off on a Tyler Lalli single and later he would score on a double swatted deep to center off the bat of Dan Roan.  1-IMG_3019Although that would be all they needed the Peppers added 2 more runs in the 4th when they were able to string together 3 hits but would be turned away on a steal attempt of home ending the frame with a 4-0 lead.  Lemont would try a different approach in the 5th after having no success swinging the bats through 4 innings and striking out 6 times they showed patience and loaded the bases by a hit batter and 2 walks all coming with 2 outs but a harmless ground ball would end their biggest threat of the night.  Pleasant Gap would add insurance runs in the 5th & 6th as Moerschbacher would prove just as able at the plate this evening having a single and  double and scoring the last run of the night.  Lemont would only send 6 more batters to face Zach the rest of the night as he would settle down and limit the opportunities of the Ducks.  Moerschbacher finished with 9 strikeouts and not yielding a single hit in facing just 5 batters over the minimum.

The Lemont Ducks scored in bunches and quickly had plenty of runs to hold off the struggling Peppers. Lemont’s first three batters reached base safely to set the table for Pete Sanson who capitalized with a 2 run double leaving opportunity for Clint Hicks to bring home another run with a ground out. Pleasant Gap tried to fight back early but stranded runners on first and second in the bottom of the first. Still down three runs in the 3rd, Pleasant Gap loaded the bases with one out and the meat of their lineup coming to the plate; Ben Finlan would reach deep in to his bag of tricks and strikeout the next two batters leaving Pleasant Gap reeling in frustration. With the Peppers wounds still fresh, the Ducks used two Pleasant Gap errors to tack on another three runs in the 4th. Pleasant Gap would try to pull it together for one last charge and plate their first run of the year in the bottom of the 4th but after the unearned run Lemont would only leave 11 batters enter the batters box to collect the remaining 10 outs.

Lemont is now 3-3 and will entertain the Spring Mills Braves while 0-4 Pleasant Gap will have to travel to Clarence to face the Mounties, both games to be played on Thursday.
